Bathala

Famed for its rare underwater beauty, the Republic of Maldives has gained immense popularity as a diving destination with its abundance and variety of underwater life. All resorts in the Maldives have professional diving schools, often with multilingual instructors. With very few exceptions, almost all resort islands have a ‘house reef’ literally a stone’s throw away, allowing for convenient day and night dives all year round.

Surrounded by pristine white beaches and coral reefs, Bathala is probably the best dive resort in the Maldives. It offers easy access to many famous reefs or thila, including the protected marine reserves of Maaya Thila and Fish Head. Apart from fabulous corals and the strange creatures that live among them, the list of resident marine species round Bathala includes barracuda, turtles, rays, Napoleon wrasse and several varieties of shark.

But you don’t have to be a diver to enjoy Bathala. This remote tropical island getaway is full of serenity and its own uncomplicated charm, ideal for the Robinson Crusoe in you. Bathala is perfect for pure relaxation, a place to lie back in a hammock with a book, watch the moon rise and the sun set, sunbathe, stroll, snorkel or just spend a few quiet, uninterrupted days and nights with someone special.

Excursions off Bathala Island Resort include diving excursions, night dives and boat dives. The house reef is wonderful for snorkeling and diving. Guests can easily swim to the reef edge, which drops sharply to about 28m.

Accommodation

Bathala Island Resort offers accommodation built around a typical diver’s schedule: morning dive, lunch, afternoon dive, relax on the beach, have a beer or two at the bar before dinner and maybe a little music and relaxation afterwards.

Facilities are kept simple to suit the pace and character of island life. Highlights include restaurant theme nights, indoor games.

Room facilities:
• 46 A/C rustic cabaña-style cottages
• Private outdoor showers with hot & cold water
• 24-hour fresh water supply
• Minibar in all rooms

Hotel facilities:
• Restaurant
• Dive School offering PADI and CMAS certification with personalised instruction in English, German or Italian
• Gift shop
• Bar & coffee shop

Underwater

For divers and lovers of the undersea world, Bathala remains the finest dive resort in Maldives. Its location on the edge of Ari Atoll makes it the perfect base for exploring the dozens of excellent dive sites nearby.

On this tiny island with its Robinson Crusoe atmosphere, a beautiful house reef, populated by hundreds of exotic species from tiny, luminous wrasse and gaudy parrotfish to black-cheeked morays, stingrays and sharks, is just a few steps away from the beach. Gentle currents and clear visibility make the water around the house reef ideal for novice divers. It is also a perfect location for night dives.

Further out, but still within easy reach, are a host of excellent dive spots. The main atoll reef, Bathala Thila, offers magnificent corals and is haunted by giant Napoleon wrasse and white-tipped reef shark. It is just a five-minute boat ride from the resort. Also nearby are Maaga Thila, or ‘shark point’ and the famous reefs of Fish Head, where tame Napoleon wrasse welcome divers to their home, and Maaya Thila, with its sharks, eagle rays, turtles, barracuda and stonefish. Still farther away (a two-hour excursion by boat) is Maalhos Thila, a completely unspoilt reef whose corals were not affected by the El Niño bleaching of 2002. These are just the best-known spots; in all, Bathala boasts 32 nearby dive sites.

Bathala is also a good place in Maldives to see manta rays from November to April. The dive school at Bathala offers both
CMAS and PADI courses and certification with German, English and Italian-speaking instructors. Attention is personalised,
with lessons in groups of 2-3 divers, and the instructors will accompany any dive at no extra cost. More experienced divers
will find that the instructors at Bathala are kindred spirits, fellow enthusiasts who love both diving and the underwater paradise that is Maldives.

Perhaps the best testimonial for Bathala comes from the community of divers that has grown up around the resort, many of whom keep returning year after year. Some of our guests have returned to Bathala as often as 18 times!

Four Seasons - Kudahura

Whisked by private speedboat from Malé, discover the charm of a Maldivian village on a private coral island in the turquoise sea. Palm-thatched pavilions and bungalows line the white sand, or rise above the crystal water. A spa on an island of its own offers soothing Asian secrets. Sunrise, sunshine and sunset paint the endless sky.

We also invite you to experience Four Seasons Explorer cruises as an exciting land-and-sea complement to your stay at one or both of our Maldivian resorts.

" ...Four Seasons Kuda Huraa means 'small village' but none of the Four Seasons world-famous luxury and service is sacrificed. The pool is classic Four Seasons. The Island Spa lives up to its name, reached by quaint, small dhoni (a traditional wooden boat)."

The Washington Times, May 31, 2008

Overview

Thatched beach pavilions and bungalows line the white sand beach at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa, while water bungalows are built on stilts over the lagoon. The Royal Beach Villa offers lavish, one-of-a-kind accommodations for guests. From their thatched roofs and timber latticework to the beautiful white stone walls, all the architectural details are constructed by local craftsmen using indigenous materials and techniques that date back centuries, to reflect a true sense of the Maldives.

Enhance your resort stay with a cruise on the Four Seasons Explorer, a private three-deck, 11-cabin catamaran that takes guests island-hopping, stargazing and diving in Four Seasons style. Our Maldivian resort at Landaa Giraavaru also makes an exciting complement to your experience on Kuda Huraa and your Four Seasons Explorer cruise.

Sunset Water Bungalow

Rising on stilts above the placid waters of the lagoon, with views that stretch across the sea, Sunset Water Bungalows offer an atmosphere of delightful seclusion. Stunningly redesigned interiors step out to a private sundeck with stairs leading down to the turquoise lagoon.

Due to the unique nature of Water Bungalows, only children 11 years of age and above are welcome.

* Sunset Water Bungalows offer a 39-square-metre (420-square-foot) sundeck. Steps lead down to the lagoon – a natural swimming pool – and a sea-level swim platform with outdoor swim shower. The sundeck is furnished with two chaises longues and a table and chairs for alfresco dining.
* In each bungalow, an entrance foyer leads to generously proportioned quarters, where picture windows frame unobstructed views of the ocean – from the comfortable seating as well as the pillow-like bed.
* The air-conditioned living area features a sofa, armchairs, plasma-screen television, DVD/CD player, an armoire with private bar, and a writing table.
* A dressing room enhances privacy and furnishes ample closet space.
* The spacious full bathroom features a twin vanity and a deep tub set beside a window overlooking the lagoon; a separate shower is accessible both from indoors and from the sundeck.

Most island resorts have their own spa. The Island Spa at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa has its own island. In this serene hideaway within a hideaway, you can feel as one with the ocean. Let the gentle rhythms of the earth soothe your senses, allowing cares and tensions to dissolve and wash away.

Sail in a wooden dhoni (traditional Maldivian boat) across the lagoon to the island. There, luxuriate in one of seven thatched spa pavilions that are positioned over the water, open to the ocean breezes and panoramic vistas of endless blue sky and sea. Each treatment pavilion features a viewing port in the deck so that guests enjoying a massage can contemplate the aquatic playground below.

Just as the Maldives is a world blend of cultures, from Indian to Arabic, the design of the Island Spa captures an authentic sense of place. Asian-inspired, innovative treatments rejuvenate in facilities complete with invigorating Vichy showers and oversized deep soaking tubs. Indigenous treatments pay tribute to the restorative power of marine nutrients and celebrate the therapeutic effects of aromatic oils and spices.

Yoga pavilion
An open-air yoga and meditation platform faces the boundless ocean, inspiring those who practise the ancient ritual to find mental, physical and emotional balance. The Resort’s resident yogi invites you to private training sessions, customised to individual liking and needs:

* Asanas – body positions
* Pranayama – breathing techniques
* Dhayan – concentration techniques
* Yoga nidra – relaxation techniques

Baraabaru

An elegant dinner at Baraabaru is a memorable affair. Guests may choose to dine in the restaurant's brightly coloured interiors, on the spectacular deck above the waters or in a private dining gazebo. The open kitchen features an open tandoori bar, where guests can watch as the chefs prepare fine Indian cuisine. The food is complemented by a wine list chosen to suit the tropics, with an emphasis on light wines and champagnes. Seats 48 indoors, 40 outdoors, 5 at the tandoori bar and 4 in the gazebo.
Specialties

The menu, which focuses on fine Indian cuisine, delivers a diverse selection of fresh local seafood, rice biriyanis (a flavourful Indian specialty served in a clay pot) and traditional Indian specialties.

A children's menu is available. Our chefs will also be delighted to prepare children's portions of any dish as requested.

Wedding at Coco Palm

A traditional wedding ceremony in the romantic setting of Coco Palm can make your wedding very memorable. The service is held at sunset on a desert island beach, under a hut made of coconut trees and leaves. Traditionally dressed Minister, witnesses and friends, wait with the bride for the groom to arrive on a local sailing boat, then carried by the crew to the beach. The ceremony is celebrated according to the local traditions with a dowry, exchange of vows and rings. The melodious drums of the local fishermen accompany the couple on their journey back to their villa. All the guests are invited to participate in toasting to the happiness of the couple with Kurumba local coconut, and enjoy the drums ceremonial dances. In the evening a BBQ dinner will be served to the bride and groom. The following day a coconut tree planting ceremony will be hosted for the happy couple.

Description
Few hours before sunset, the Bride dressed in traditional sarong and the Minister (Head of Ceremony) will arrive to the island on sailing dhoni, whilst the Groom dressed in traditional attire, is waiting on the beach.

Traditional Bodu Beru, Maldivian Drums, will be announcing the Bride's arrival. The Bride will be met by one of the management team and receive two palm leaf laces.

When the Bride is walking towards the ceremony, a line of employees will form a palm leaf entrance. The palm leaf will be lifted and by the time she reaches the end of the path, the groom will be waiting for her. The Bride will hand the other lace to the groom. Hand in hand they will approach the Head of Ceremony.

The groom will then ask consent from the Bride's father who will be seated under the ceremonial Coconuts hut

Once the bride's father consent is obtained, the Minister will conduct a short, beautiful ceremony culminating in exchange of vows, signing of the wedding certificate, exchange the ring, celebratory the traditional ritual of cutting wedding cake. It will end by the service of fresh coconuts to the whole gathering and Champagne to the bride and groom that will then toast the couple !

During the exchange of vows, the ritual of the Dowry will be respected, when a witness will ask the groom to quote the Dowry he will remit to the bride. This symbolic Dowry can be a local exotic gift or money.

Following the ceremony, the couple will be escorted to their villas by all attendance and accompanied by traditional drummers "Bodu Beru". The villa will be decorated with the flowers and local leaves ...

The wedding dinner will be served on your villa terrace or on the beach by a private chef and butler, with the Indian Ocean as a background. The romantic dinner will be a combination of well presented plates and grilled fish, lobster, prawns and meat.

Following morning, a Maldivian breakfast will be served in the Villa.

Diva Island Resort & Spa

Opened September 2008

Paradise is made of this! A small island resort, surrounded by a crystal-clear lagoon and miles and miles of ocean in shades of blue and turquoise. This is the place for a real break, far removed from the bustle of modern life, on a beautiful island, full of tropical greenery, surrounded by a fabulous lagoon, perfect for swimming and snorkelling and close to the Maldives' best dive sites.

The island is 25 minutes from Malé by seaplane and 2½ hours by boat, a short journey but one that you will never forget.

Accommodation :

Water Villas (88m²) :

The gentle, shallow waters of the lagoon lap the steps of your exclusive Villa, as you sit reading, sunbathing or taking an outdoor shower in complete privacy, or simply gazing at the wonderful expanse of sea or the neighbouring islands from your own private terrace.

Beautiful Maldivian wood flooring, Egyptian cotton sheets and Pierre Frey fabrics from Paris give bedrooms a warm and luxurious feel. The décor has been inspired by the lagoon, with touches of turquoise and shades of beige and ochre, offset by motifs of sea life that bring the ocean setting dramatically to life. The lagoon itself is clearly visible from both the bed and the bath. Each Villa has its own luxurious bathroom with a sunken bath, and the bedroom can sleep two people, as well as a child under 12. A cot can also be provided.

Overall, the setting is fantastic, the décor simply stunning and the whole ambiance warm and relaxing.

Beach Pool Villas (110 m²) :

The sunsets from the west-facing Beach Pool Villas are sensational - and there is a view of the lagoon and sunset even from the bed itself. The rooms, with their luxurious en-suite bathrooms, are pure elegance and the extensive use of local wood for the floors and fittings, as well as the Pierre Frey fabrics from Paris, give an added warmth.

The décor is subtle and elegant, with sand and ochre colours that echo the beautiful sandy beach, just outside. The individual terrace is more like extended living space, with its wooden decking and a settee for reading, lounging or simply gazing at the lagoon. There is also a table, large enough for meals or for use as a writing desk. Each Villa has a private garden on its far side, featuring a sunken swimming pool with a wooden deck surround, 2 sunloungers and an outdoor shower. There is plenty of room for a cot and there is an overall feeling of spaciousness and a sense of being part of nature.

Beach Villas (90m²) :

Beach Villas (90m²) The Beach Villas are as attractive as the Beach Pool Villas, with larger gardens but without individual swimming pools.

Junior Suites (63m² or 61m²) :

All the Junior Suites look out to sea and are near to the sea on both sides, as they are located on the narrow ends of the island. Each Suite has a bedroom, en-suite bathroom, terrace and private garden area. The designer has used dramatic orange touches to give the Suites a warm, sunny feel, further enhanced by the use of local wood for the bedroom floors and terrace decking.

Even the stylish bathrooms, with their sunken terrazzo baths, look out both over the garden and towards the sea. Many of the Suites have communicating doors with the next room and the others have a single bed that can accommodate a child under 12.

Restaurants :

The resort has a superb range of restaurants and bars, set in stunning locations.

Dhidoo Restaurant :
The Oriental has a subtle and contemporary elegance, with wood and white terrazzo features. It breathes sophisticated chic. The view is out over the swimming pool and the lagoon beyond. Guests from Water Villas can have breakfast here. Exquisitely prepared salads, grills and seafood are served at lunchtime. The room is bathed in candlelight for buffet or à la carte dining in the evening, when the best of European cuisine meets the oriental savours of Morocco, Lebanon and India. The result is really amazing!

Nautilus :
The Nautilus, in the centre of the island, is a spectacular, shell-shaped, beach restaurant, full of sunny colours, for breakfast, lunch and themed buffet dinners.

Teppaniaki * :
Standing on stilts over the water, the Teppaniaki is the place for romantic dinning in an elegant and contemporary setting. This intimate restaurant has a contemporary décor, with Japanese influences. Open for dinner only, it features a refined Japanese cuisine and open cooking.

Italian Restaurant & Bar * :
The Italian Restaurant, with its gushing fountains, is on a white, sandy beach, facing the crystal-clear waters of the lagoon. The concept is again open-kitchen, with Italian specialities at both lunch and dinner. Exclusive arrangements can also be made for small parties to dine in the midst of the wine cellar.

Water Restaurant & Bar * :
This is the main restaurant with a wonderful setting, standing on stilts out over the water, offering breakfast, lunch and themed buffet dinners.

Lounge Bar :
The Lounge Bar is airy and light, with a huge terrace, under a thatched roof, right at the edge of the beach, looking out over the pool and the lagoon. It shares the chic atmosphere of the nearby Oriental restaurant and serves a wide range of cocktails and international wines and spirits, including of course, French champagne.

Half Moon Bar :
The circular bar stands dramatically beyond the beach, its terrace jutting out over the sea. It glows with colour and is filled with light as the sun sets. As well as a tempting selection of drinks and cocktails, snacks are also available in the evening.

Pool Bar :
The Bar is next to a circular swimming pool that extends out to sea, with views of the turquoise lagoon all around. The atmosphere is laid-back and cheerful, the place to lounge around barefoot in a swimming costume and pareo during the daytime. The Bar serves Italian, French, Spanish and Japanese snacks during the daytime.

Facilities :

Spa :
This spa must have one of the most unique settings in the world, where the wooden floors and fittings lend natural beauty to an airy and spacious location. Amber and blue-green shades of colour add to the atmosphere of tranquillity. The reception area is open to the air under a thatched, timbered roof, looking out over the sand and lush tropical vegetation. There are welcoming water features, making it a pleasant place in which to relax before or after treatments. The common areas include a boutique, which includes a full range of products, a room for manicure and pedicure treatments, a cold pool and a whirlpool.

After the common areas, guests pass into separate ladies' and men's sections, each containing a sauna, hammam, ice room, heated pool, a room for relaxation and outdoor showers.

Diving :
Water sports and diving are what The Maldives is famous for! From the resort, guests can access some of The Maldives' most beautiful sites and encounter parrot fish, eagle and sting rays, clown fish, stone fish, and bullhead and whale sharks. It is almost impossible to describe the beauty of the nearby dive sites in words. Magnificent is an understatement. Two diving sessions are organised daily, with at least one monitor for 4 divers.

The sites are about 1.5 km apart and the fauna includes tuna fish, barracudas, king fish, eagle rays, small white sharks and turtles. Dive sites include Maamagili, suitable for beginners, Aa Thila for the more experienced and Thinfushi Beru Tila for advanced divers

Even for those who have never dived before, Diva Resort & Spa is the perfect place. All the monitors are qualified to run courses from beginner up to PADI level and are trained in rescue techniques. NITROX diving courses are also available. Diva's diving center is a Euro Divers PADI 5-star.

Water Sports :
The reef area itself is full of colourful specimens, many peculiar to the region. Guests particularly enjoy the experience of seeing the rays being fed within the lagoon.

The boathouse organises trips for snorkelling over the reefs, as well as catamaran excursions. Windsurfing, rubber ring and banana rides, water-skiing, wakeboards, jet-skiing, pedal boats and kayaks are also all available. The boathouse also arranges catamaran and windsurfing lessons, given by staff trained by the VDWS, the German watersports training centre.

Some have house reefs ideal for diving just a few meters off the shore. For others, the best diving is a few minutes away by speed boat. All resorts have an adequate supply of fresh water from desalination plants, backed up by rainwater catchments. All have their own electricity generators and waste disposers.

A separate bathroom (with bath and /shower with hot water and toilet) en suites with every room. Some resorts offer an imitation of the Maldivian gifili (bathroom) with its own walled garden open to the sky.

Exquisite surroundings, modern services, every room boasts superb service to satisfy the most sophisticated traveler.

Food

Here, in the Maldivian resorts, guests are tempted with a variety of culinary delights. From healthy to hearty, Italian to Chinese, and casual to elegant, our full-service restaurants and dining options cater to every taste – and every time-frame.

An Introduction of Maldives

It's almost impossible to speak about the islands of Maldives, without sounding pompous or been driven into a glorious description of the Maldivian exotic nature. Thus, simply Maldives which is located in the Indian Ocean, about 500 km from the southern tips of Srilanka and India, the Maldives is an exotic tropical island paradise for the sun lover, the surfer,, the diver, the honeymooners and those who desire peace in its deepest meaning.

Scatters across the equator in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the gem like islands of the Maldives depict the rare vision of a tropical paradise. Palm fringed islands with sparkling white beaches, turquoise lagoons, clear warm waters and coral reefs teeming with abundant varieties of marine flora and fauna, continue to fascinate visitors, as it has fascinated others in the past, for thousands of years. Marco Polo referred to the Maldives as the ".......flowers of the Indies", and Ibn Batuta called her in his chronicles "One of the wonders of the world:

Truly a natural wonder, the height of the islands rarely reach above 2 meters. It is said that nobody could exactly say the number of islands in Maldives. When one counts the smaller islets and sandbanks; the commonly agreed figure is 1,190 coral islands, consisting of 26 Atoll formations which are spread over an area of 90,000 square kilometers. The Maldivian Atolls are a classic discovery in its own right: the word "Atoll" has been derived from "Dhivehi" (our own language) the word "Atholhu".

Each of the islands itself started the life as a little sandbank on a coral reef. And by the action of wind, waves, currents, rain and tides they gradually expand and evolved into islands. At this same manner, as a result of storms, changing tides; it disappear once more beneath the sea. Together these islands which have evolved from circular coral reefs are known by the Maldivians as "Atholhu". So, could this be the largest reef formation in the world!

Thus, a low lying island is naturally formed. Coconuts are washed ashore, palm trees and hardy bushes grow and their roots stabilizes the sand on the coral. Sea birds and hermit crabs are the first known inhabitants. These islands are surrounded by shallow crystal clear lagoons enclosed by coral reefs. Further, these islands provide visitors with one of the most breathtaking views of underwater life in the world. Formed above peaks emerging from the depths of the ocean, upon layers of both living and dead coral, and remnants of other marine life, the islands are generally covered with dense tropical vegetation. Coconut palms towering above dense shrubs and hardy plants protecting the shores from erosion are natural features in most islands. The smaller islands and sand banks under formation are also wonders in themselves. These islands together embody living entities in various stages of formation, as interdependent elements in an ecology. In a food chain where birds, fish, and other marine life co-exist, with humans at its apex as caretakers for centuries.
